THE THUNDERBIRD WITH FEATHER TOP

I have to admit, I've had some outstanding looking bolos by Warren, but this one is a "all hands up" bolo! You might say he took the signature bird of the southwest to a whole new level with this one! From the Thunderbird, to the birds feather headdress, to the set of matching tips, this is what you call a fabulous piece of Kewa Pueblo mosaic art & it’s for these reasons as to why his Bolos are so highly sought after & asked for by name!

The obvious love & time that was poured into this can't be denied, when you think about how each & every cut of material was cut & shaped by the hands of Warren to create this piece of art! Keeping close to his Ancestral Puebloan roots, Warren stayed traditional in technique, while putting us into modern day..

Like a painted picture done in a mosaic inlaid form, Warren used a variety of multi colored stones & shells for the boxy bird.The feather on top of it’s head is made up of a mosaic pattern of Serpentine, luminous Mother of Pearl, Kingman Turquoise & red Apple Coral for an added dash of color. In the upper part of the birds body are vertically laid cuts of Mother of Pearl & black Jet that represent rain and are then followed by a horizontally laid sliver of sterling that separates the top design from the colorful bottom design..

The bottom portion has a ‘Kiva Step” design (See photo 7) in both the wings & very bottom of the bird..This Kiva Step bottom portion represents the “nourishment for the land.” and is made with cuts of Kingman turquoise, yellow green Serpentine, Apple Coral & Mother of Pearl, these all are laid in both a vertical & horizontal pattern. All the material is then carefully mosaic inlaid atop of black Jet.

THE TIPS:

Made to match the bird ,these are nice & thick, with the material being mosaic inlaid atop of black jet (Fossilized Coal). The thunderbird is held onto a small 4 mm round black bolo strap & comes with an adjustable clasp,so you can wear this high or low! (See mannequin photos)

A WORD:

I want to mention that if the tips are not ever facing the right way, how you fix this is: you release the adjustable clasp & turn and twist the leather strap so the tips are then facing front. Not letting them move while holding them in place, you then want to tighten the clasp. Also the way to make the strap lay straight & not curved (Especially after shipping!) is you can either take a warm damp cloth & run it down the leather to straighten it. You can also use a leather conditioning cloth or a steamer (Avoiding the art of course!) You can get leather conditioning wipes at just about any grocery store,Amazon,shoe repair, etc..
