Vintage Earl y to Mid 1940's Mexico City -Pre - Eagle "FARFAN"- Exquisite Cut Out Overlay Design - Amethyst / Sterling Hand Carved AZTEC Face Bracelet-7-3/8" Long
ABOUT FARFAN:
Made & designed by FarFan Platería who was considered one of Mexico City's leading gold & silver companies. They were known for their exquisite cut out work that was known to Mexico City Platería's, as well as being known for making full Coffee & Tea Sets made of solid sterling. There wasn't much they couldn't master in sterling & anything you are able to find by this quality company, will be collectible. To work there, one had to be highly skilled in metal work, since they had a reputation for producing nothing but the best. Anything you may find of theirs ,can literally make you weak in the knees & maybe drool at the mouth, their work is THAT fine & appealing!!
THE BRACELET:
What impresses me about this one, is not so much the overall historical look of the bracelet, as much as it is the incredible sterling work! It is obvious that a skilled "Master" artisan created it & the impeccable artistry can be seen in the "Cut Out/Overlay" design work.
To do cut out overlay work,is done by taking 2 sheets of sterling, with the bottom layer being left a little more oxidized so the Pre-Colombian cut out designed top layer can be accentuated. Has a push in-pull out tongue closure that 'clicks' when closed.
The 6 side panels have some deeply saturated cuts of Amethyst, while the center panels large size hand carved face is more lavender with obvious white inclusions of quartz properties that can be known to Amethyst.
Even though this has a 7-3/8" length, your wrist doesn't have to be that size to wear this. It will fit a average wrist size (6-1/2") to the smaller end of a larger wrist.(7") This type of bracelet is not meant to fit tight & should have some 'play' in it for movement.
This pre-dates & lacks the "Eagle" stamp that was put on pieces after the year 1948 for taxation on every piece being sold in & out of Mexico. Would be a great addition for the serious vintage Mexican collector!
