What I love about artisan work is for the fact that you can actually see & walk through all the same steps that an artisan takes when making something..This is something a commercial manufacture just can’t give us & that is to give you that same artistic visibility with hand created techniques.

These “Navajo Ceremonial Wedding Basket” earrings are shaped exactly as a basket, and are made in a concave round shape. Within the total design, each & every part of the basket symbolizes the story behind this traditional design. If you zoom in on photo 2, you will see just one part of the basket’s story.

Leaving the base of the disk heavily oxidized, Pete then overlaid little sterling strips that create a “Kiva Step” design and also gives a ‘positive’-negative’ design. What normally would show as red in the actual basket, Pete exchanged that color for a strip of copper & left the “emergence pathway” open. Accented in the center, is a small cab of Italian coral.

They are light & wearable while giving you all the traditional charm of Navajo jewelry!
