THE ARTIST:

One would say Kewa Puebloan artist, "Warren Nieto" is an artist who stays extremely close to his Puebloan roots & has followed in his centuries old Ancestral Puebloan footsteps that date back to as far as 1500 BC.. There's not much he doesn't know that he can't tell you about & it's these roots of his that proudly go into the jewelry he makes, with each being deeply connected to his Puebloan culture. His ancestral background is either influenced from the petroglyph walls of "Chaco Canyon, NM or through oral history, where each piece will have a Puebloan story or meaning as if he "paints the story" about life in the Pueblo by using stones & shells that paint a picturesque story...In other words, he’s not just designing jewelry the same old way, like every other artist, but each piece is like being a “story teller” that goes back in time, being proudly told. He is one of the most humble & kindest artisans I work with & am very proud to bring his work to you that you will find different from the numerous artists who live at the Kewa Pueblo(The Santo Domingo Pueblo) Warren’s work is asked for by name & whose work is highly collectible!

THE NECKLACE:

Made with hours of time & a passion for what you do, this is a true Puebloan "Showpiece" necklace that can't help but make you want to gasp for air!! It's both very elegant & contemporary in style, while at the same time, being very traditional, where Warren took the phrase "Puebloan Art" (And Spiny Oyster!) to a whole new level of meaning!

It's made with beautifully colored bright orange Spiny Oyster, where he precisely cut 9 panels in a perfect trapezoid shape. On the frontside of each panel then has the most amazing beveling, where they are thicker at the top & then get thinner as they near the bottom(see photo 12) I personally believe that it's because of the size of each that go from the 2" x 2.25" center & then graduate down to the 1-3/8" x 1-3/8" at the rear, is the main reason this drapes beautifully on the neckline!! It just follows the curvature of your neckline with fluidity & lays so perfectly!!

While the Spiny Oyster speaks for itself, it's also the top portion that shares the spotlight & really kicks the design into high gear! Laid in a mosaic inlay of Kingman turquoise, each panel has it's own symbolic petroglyph that's displayed in sterling wire. (See photos-Also read what each are in 'Specifics" below) Sandwiched between the turquoise & the oyster shell. is a channel inlay of horizontally laid "black Jet" & both yellow and white mother of Pearl. Little beads of turquoise are used as spacers in between the panels. Each also have a high polish!

Lastly, draping down your back will be a small reversible drop of the same design that dangles from the 5" usable length sterling extender chain! So there will be a spot of beauty as your back is turned & doesn’t matter how it turns since it is reversible!

A PERSONAL WORD:

I don't want to go without saying that I have had (or do have) some impressively made pieces from Warren & even though I 've loved & do love each & every one, there is something so drop dead gorgeous about this necklace!

2) ORIONS BELT: Three bright stars (Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka) form a distinctive asterism, or pattern, in the night sky. The story behind the name: The pattern in the constellation Orion was recognized as a human figure by many ancient cultures. PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING:

*****I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try to give you photos that are 'realistic" in color, so you're not shocked, nor disappointed when you get the piece. I do however find that photographing anything with 'yellow' in it, (green & orange) can come up much more vivid than other colors,,so please take this into consideration & go through all photos to see any variation.

To give you close up photos, pictures tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. So to get an accurate idea of how big this/these are, please either check it out being worn (photos) or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.
