ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Nothing can be said about Leon without mentioning something about his family ties.1st influenced by their mother & father,(who were also artists) Leon's immediate siblings happen to be "CALVIN,RICK & TERRY MARTINEZ" & his sister is the well known "READDA BEGAY" who is married to Ernest Begay Sr.(another well known, sought after artist) Leon is also the cousin of the late & much missed artist "KIRK SMITH"..Each of these family members are highly sought after for their old school traditional Navajo jewelry & you can actually see many similarities in their work.
Back in the day, the late great "HARRY MORGAN" was the one who had a big influence on Leon & taught him the ropes on how to give Navajo jewelry the look & style as if it was made from decades ago. If you’re not sure of what kind of power Harry had in the industry, then it helps to know that he was actually the 1st that brought Navajo jewelry to the market as if it was made in the 30’s- 40’s time period & was the one who was responsible for giving the sterling those heavily oxidized finishing’s that are now known as "Vintage Revival" as if the jewelry was aged. But put aside the finishing, because another category Leon’s known for, is being an “Old School” Navajo artist ,meaning that literally everything he makes,he makes from scratch, which is unlike many artists who now get ‘pre-made’ materials to make the job go faster. What get lost when pre made materials are used? True old school “Artisan” made jewelry just like his ancestors did! Leon is known for using high quality stones, heavy gauge sterling, makes each & every applique, bead, beaded stamped conchos,he does his own beautiful finishing’s, you name it! . And never will you see in his jewelry have a high polished contemporary finished sterling.
His traditionally made Navajo jewelry has now captured the attention of designers like RALPH LAUREN who as we know, has really pushed in bringing Native American jewelry & clothing to the International stage. Leon has also earned ribbons at the Navajo Nation Fair in Window Rock, AZ & Gallup Ceremonial, his work also has been featured in the highly read "Cowboys & Indians" magazine & his jewelry exhibited in Museums..I am extremely proud to bring an artist of this magnitude to you, where you will experience what traditional "Fine" Navajo jewelry really feels like, with unmatched superb quality throughout! Leon's work is highly collectible & demands top dollar.
Artist name & recognition, turquoise quality, cost per carat , amount of carats, turquoise availability, sterling cost & artists time are all reflected in price.

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING
So you see all the fine detail, close up photos tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. So to get an accurate idea of how big this is, please either check it out on the finger to get a rough idea (photos) or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.
*****I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try to give you photos that are 'realistic" in color, just so you're not shocked, nor disappointed when you get the piece. I find photographing anything with 'yellow' in it, (orange, green) can come up a little more vivid than other colors, so please take this into consideration. Please understand that each monitor varies and also plays a role in how vibrant or less vibrant as something appears. *****
